North Grenville Committee of the Whole heard some details about upcoming work on the Rideau Canal’s Burritts Rapids Lock 17 on Monday night. A community update package was distributed in the agenda for the meeting to inform council and staff of the upcoming work. The project is being undertaken by Parks Canada and will affect commuting plans for residents in Burritts Rapids. One of the key issues will be the fact that the swing bridge will be impassable for multiple months. Some school bus routes will be affected and residents will have to use the north bridge and Donnelly Drive to travel. While a date hasn’t been set to start work on the bridge, Parks Canada will advise residents ahead of time to help make planning easier. Parks Canada will also be in touch with bus companies to advise them of the bridge closure.
