Land purchased for new Kemptville Public School

The Upper Canada District School Board has purchased land that will be used to build a new 440-student elementary school to replace the aging Kemptville Public School. Trustees approved a motion at their regular meeting in Brockville Wednesday night to buy the twenty acres of land from two private landowners. The lot is located north of the police station and south of eQuinelle on County Road 44, north of Kemptville. Kemptville Public School, located on Reuben Crescent, was originally built in 1958, with an addition in 1978. Having outgrown the facility, senior students have been using the “annex” at the old North Grenville District High School. Currently, the project is at the early design stage. Following approval of the designs, the project will go to tender to choose a general contractor. The tentative opening date is September 2016.
