City of Ottawa art gaffe goes viral

The City of Ottawa is making headlines across social media this week, and not for any good reason. A City designer was given the task of creating an art installation in honour of the late Jack Purcell, who was known for repairing broken hockey sticks and giving them to neighbourhood children. The new sculptures were installed in the Ottawa park named for Jack Purcell, when it was eventually discovered that the tribute was for the wrong man. Jack Purcell of Guelph, Ontario, was a world badminton champion. To save face, the City is now trying to pass off the badminton racket sculptures as futuristic trees. Photo credit: Ottawa Citizen.
