St. Michael CHS grads get a lesson in "Safe Prom" behaviour

St. Michael CHS was the scene of a mock car crash as part of the Safe Prom assembly this morning. The Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving presented a short skit of a party, and OPP Constable Lindsey spoke about the legalities of underage drinking, driving while impaired, as well as the dangers involved with excessive drinking. At the sound of a loud crash, students proceeded to the back of the school where a car crash scene was staged. Emergency vehicles raced in to respond, with sirens blaring, first responders attended to the victims and the Fire Department dismantled the car using the Jaws of Life.
Students returned inside for a mock funeral procession to drive home the message. Organizers are hoping that while the presentation is disturbing, it might make students think twice about drinking and driving or getting in a vehicle with someone who does.
