Distracted driving fine bumped up in Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police are hoping that increased fines for distracted driving – up to $1000 and three demerit points – will help to improve the situation across the province. Last year, in Ontario alone, 73 people lost their lives due to distracted or inattentive driving on OPP patrolled roadways. Adjusting entertainment systems, using GPS, eating or drinking, using a hand held device, grooming or tending children is included in this offence. It’s really up to the drivers themselves to put hand held devices out of reach and avoid all distraction.
