At Monday’s regular meeting of municipal council, OPP Inspector Bill Bolton was introduced as the area’s new Detachment Commander. Appointed in March, Bolton replaces Inspector Paul Bedard, who moved on last year to a post in Smiths Falls. At council, Bolton provided a status report on crime in the area, summarizing that major crimes are down and less serious crimes, such as vandalism and petty theft, are on the rise. The Inspector also promised increased police presence and visibility in the community on bike patrol and on foot, particularly in “problem areas” as identified by reports from the public.
