Augusta Fire Rescue is replacing an aging diesel generator at one of its stations with a new propane-powered generator.
It’s expected the existing generator will be removed and the new generator installed on Monday.
Officials say the replacement is at Fire Station 2 on Mill Street North through a grant from the Ontario government.
They say they have worked closely with representatives from the North Augusta Recreation Committee to plan the project and minimize disruptions to programs and activities that take place around the station.
Over the next couple weeks construction is expected around the fire station.
Fire officials say there will be no impact to response, however, there may be some temporary impacts to parking and access near the station while work is underway.
The department says upgrades will ensure the station has dependable emergency power, allowing them to continue serving the community during emergencies.
