You’re being reminded that, with the temperature set to soar, heat can kill in minutes.
Ontario Provincial Police are urging the public to think of the life-threatening dangers of leaving children and pets unattended in parked vehicles.
Even on a mild day, they say temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, putting occupants at serious risk of heatstroke, brain injury, or death.
In as little as 10 minutes, the interior of a vehicle can become 20 degrees hotter than the outside temperature, even with the windows slightly open.
Children and pets are especially vulnerable because their bodies do not regulate heat as effectively.
If you see a child or pet alone in a hot vehicle, you’re urged to call 911 immediately.
