Guns seized in traffic stop near Metcalfe

A traffic stop near Metcalfe has resulted in the seizure of restricted firearms. On Wednesday, March 26, at about 12:30 AM, Ottawa Police officers saw two suspicious vehicles parked on the side of the road in the area of Mitch Owens and 8th Line Roads.  Investigation showed one vehicle had been reported stolen. Officers arrested 4 individuals and brought them to the station.  A pistol magazine located in one vehicle was seized and held for the Guns and Gangs Unit. A search warrant turned up a loaded 32 calibre pistol in the vehicle. Two of the suspects were released with no charges, while 2 men were charged with various offences. A 51 year old Ottawa man was charged with careless handling and storage of firearms, possessing restricted or prohibited firearms without license and registration, occupying a vehicle with firearm and obtaining a firearm by crime. A 27-year-old Gatineau man is charged with possession of stolen property under $5000 and breach of probation.
