Fewer trips to U.S. from eastern Ontario recorded in 2025 compared to 2024

Fewer Canadians continue to make the trip south of the border.

Data released by Statistics Canada shows the number of vehicles with Canadian license plates coming back from the U.S. via one of the three land border crossings in eastern Ontario dropped nearly 24 per cent year-over-year from 2024 to 2025.

That includes at the Ogdensburg-Prescott Border Crossing.

StatsCan says there were 810,825 return trips to the Cornwall, Lansdowne, and Prescott crossings last year, down from 1.06 million in 2024.

The number of American vehicles crossing over into our province saw a 0.6 per cent year-over-year decline.

The drop in travel comes amid a tariff war set off by U.S. President Donald Trump.
