Drivers urged to be prepared for what winter has to bring

It’s that time of the year again and police are reminding drivers to be prepared.

With a large part of Ontario seeing its first snow over the weekend, OPP say a few proactive steps can significantly reduce the risk of traffic incidents, especially during icy and snowy conditions.

Drivers are being encouraged to install winter tires for improved traction and control and schedule routine maintenance checks, including brakes, battery, fluids and heating systems.

They are also urged to make sure their windshield wipers and defrosters are functioning properly as well as keep an emergency kit in their vehicle.

Police say slippery roads, reduced visibility and changing conditions require extra caution.

When you’re behind the wheel you’re reminded to adjust your driving to meet the conditions and remain focused on the road and on other vehicles.
