Ash Island cottage destroyed in weekend fire

There were no injuries but a weekend fire has left a cottage on Ash Island in ruins.

Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Services says on Facebook that they responded to the blaze on Sunday afternoon.

They are thanking the Gananoque Fire Service for providing the use of their boat and manpower as well as members of the island community who offered their personal boats and fire pumps to help stop additional ground fires from spreading.

The Canadian Coast Guard also stepped in to provide assistance with marine traffic in the area.

Residents who have fire pumps are being reminded to make sure that they are in good running condition.
