Mural dedication for two local legends held Friday afternoon

Murals of two figures instrumental in Kemptville’s history have a new place to call home.

The dedication for the paintings of former National Hockey League star Frank Boucher and Leonard Grahame, the patriarch and proprietor of Grahame’s Bakery, were unveiled at their new site at Fat Les’s at 288 County Road 44 on Friday afternoon.

The murals were created in 2007 to honour the two local legends and were located at the Odd Fellows Hall at 119 Clothier Street East before they were put into storage when the building was purchased.

Boucher played in the NHL with the New York Rangers from 1926-1944 while Grahame started working at the bakery in 1939 and purchased it in 1960, the pair were also good friends.

North Grenville Councilor Deb Wilson is Grahame’s granddaughter and she tells Moose FM the murals are special.

“Every time I’d pull in the bake shop to go and go to work when the paintings were at the Odd Fellows Hall we’d always wave hi to Frank and hi to Grandpa. Now we can wave at them going down County Road 44 when we are going to the North Grenville Municipal Centre.”

Boucher started his NHL career with the original Ottawa Senators in 1921-1922.
