It could be a very exciting week ahead for the man who stood tall in the Kemptville 73’s net last season.
The National Hockey League holds its annual entry draft this weekend, with the first round on Friday night and rounds two through seven on Saturday, and Trenten Bennett finds himself listed among those who could hear their names called out.
Bennett played 31 games with the 73’s in 2024-2025 and finished with a 13-15-2 record along with a 2.65 Goals Against Average and a .912 Save Percentage.
The 19-year-old 6’8 goalie also played a handful of games with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack, where it’s expected he’ll play this coming season, and he finished 17th on the NHL’s Central Scouting list for North American goalies heading into the draft.
This will be the second entry draft Bennett will be eligible for after not being selected or ranked in 2024.
He also garnered attention from hockey prospect experts including publication The Hockey News, which placed him at 95 on their list of top 100 draft eligible players.
Kemptville 73’s Head Coach Shawn Fensel tells Moose FM that it’s super special to see the recognition Bennett is receiving.
“It’s a testament to Trenten in terms of where he’s at in development. I think it starts way back to our scouting staff who first brought up Trenten’s name about a year and a half ago.”
Bennett has committed to St. Lawrence University in the NCAA for the 2026-2027 season.
