The Executive Superintendent of the Upper Canada District School Board says they will continue to actively work with the union to alleviate issues, as they have always done.
A statement from Chris Boulay was sent to Moose FM in response to a petition from the Canadian Union of Public Employees 5678 that says underfunding and understaffing plague the board with students’ needs going unmet and incidents of violence skyrocketing.
In the statement, Boulay says they “understand the concerns CUPE has raised in this campaign” and adds that “ensuring that staff feel supported by the district in their work and that they have the resources they need to be successful is a top priority for the UCDSB; one that is clearly outlined in our Director’s Work Plan with the actions we are taking to better support staff.”
Boulay adds that “we truly believe that a positive working relationship, including raising concerns about employment conditions with direct supervisors and working collaboratively to identify solutions, is the most effective way to support the needs of staff and our students.”
He finishes the statement by saying that “we will continue to work with our labour partners regarding their concerns but will do so in a professional and appropriate way that is conducive to finding solutions, rather than in a public forum.”
