Teen drowns in Rideau River in Manotick

An 18-year-old male is dead after drowning in the water at a Manotick park.

Ottawa Fire Services says in a statement that they received a 911 call just before 9:30 p.m. Monday that three residents had gone swimming in the Rideau River near Walter Upton-Collins Park and only two had come out of the water.

They say initial reports were that the third resident had been under the water for five minutes and not resurfaced.

Their water rescue team was dispatched to the scene with a rescue boat launched and a grid search initiated.

At 9:45 p.m., FDS says their water rescue technicians located the male under the water and lifted them on board and immediately initiated CPR.

He was quickly transported back to shore and transferred into the care of Ottawa paramedics.

Ottawa Police say the teen was pronounced dead at the hospital.
