North Grenville honouring local teen who passed away suddenly

North Grenville is honouring the life of a local teen gone too soon.

Rowan Dean, a Grade 11 student and athlete, passed away suddenly in September, 2024.

Now, the municipality, in close partnership with Dean’s family, are dedicating a section of the Rail Trail to the teen with a memorial bench and commemorative plaque to be put in place.

A dedication for the trail and bench is scheduled for Tuesday, June. 17 on the trail near the corner of Bridge St. and Parkinson/Wellington Street.

It will include brief remarks, moments of reflection, and the reveal of the permanent memorial elements.

“We are humbled to support this lasting tribute to Rowan in a way that reflects the profound impact he had on so many,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford. “This trail and bench will stand as a gentle reminder of his presence, and the strength of community that surrounds his memory.”

The trail and its commemorative features are intended to offer a place of quiet reflection, connection, and peace for those who knew Rowan and others who may find comfort in the natural setting.

The dedication begins at 3 p.m. and all are welcome.
