Update: UCDSB provides final update on cyberattack

Our local public school board is providing more details about the personal information stolen in a recent cyberattack.

In a follow-up to the incident posted on Friday to their website, the Upper Canada District School Board says it has now completed extensive analysis of the stolen data from early January.

The information descriptions are broken down into different categories and officials say students and their families, dating back to 1950, could be impacted as could current and former staff.

The stolen information includes date of birth, gender information, home address information and phone numbers.

As well, former UCDSB students who were enrolled in a UCDSB school since 2001 and received a bursary could have had their social insurance number and home address stolen.

Trustees were told at a board meeting in April that the attack cost around $3 million between consulting fees, restoring services, and other measures.

With the update, the board says it has completed its notification process and they add they are committed to strengthening their cybersecurity program to better protect against future incidents.

The incident was reported to Brockville Police and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.
