You’re being warned that with wildfire season well underway, we could potentially experience increased risks to our health and safety from exposure to fire, heat, and smoke.
Health Canada officials say wildfire smoke can travel thousands of kilometres from a fire zone and is a major source of harmful air pollutants.
They add that there is no safe level of exposure for most of these pollutants and smoke can cause negative health effects, even at very low levels when we may not be able to see or smell it.
A few tips you can follow to prepare yourself include checking local weather advisories and air quality conditions and protecting indoor air quality by ensuring proper ventilation and using an air purifier.
You should also limit outdoor activities or wear a well-fitting respirator when outside.
