It may have been a quick visit but a local apple farmer still came face to face with King Charles.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were in Ottawa over the past two days and it included a visit to a farmer’s market at Landsdowne Park where Matthew Shapton, one of the owner’s of Halls Apple Market from Brockville, was set up.
Shapton says the business takes place in a year-round farmer’s market that’s held every Sunday at Landsowne Park and they were invited to take part in the special one that was set up for the King and Queen.
He tells Moose FM that King Charles stopped at his booth to enquire about the market.
“We chatted about how long the farm has been here, how many generations there’s been, he said they looked like nice apples. I was right beside the gates where all the people were and everybody was chanting god save the king when he walked by.”
Shapton adds that he also met Prime Minister Mark Carney and many have told him he’s now not allowed to wash his hand so they can shake the hand of royalty.
King Charles delivered the speech from the throne on Parliament Hill on Tuesday afternoon before the King and Queen flew back home.
