Local school officials say the relationship between education and artificial intelligence is a developing one.
With the advent of AI and programs like ChatGPT, Upper Canada District School Board officials say it has created a moving target where schools are learning how to respond.
UCDSB officials have developed an AI guide based around four components: digital literacy, ethics and equity, transparency and academic integrity and enhancing teaching and learning with AI.
UCDSB Executive Superintendent Eric Hardie tells Moose FM that they see a lot of potential in the way AI can help students with their learning.
He points to an example.
“Taking a piece of text and actually simplifying it, so if you’re having a hard time reading it you can actually ask it to rewrite it at a different reading level and make the text more accessible.”
However, Hardie says there are concerns and potential challenges including programs that can artificially create reports for students.
