Canada Road Safety Week begins Tuesday

Poor and careless decisions and actions behind the wheel and in passenger seats caused the vast majority of fatal collisions in Ontario last year.

This is Canada Road Safety Week and police say that among last year’s 344 fatal collisions, 95 fatalities were attributed to speed and 80 of the deaths involved an inattentive driver.

So far this year, OPP say they have responded to 86 fatal road collisions that resulted in 99 people losing their lives.

In a video posted to social media, Grenville County OPP Const. Dave Holmes says police will be out making sure everyone is following the rules of the road.

“I, and other members of the Grenville County OPP detachment, are prepared to make public safety our first responsibility. We will be out on the roads throughout the entire week, and every other day, ensuring that motorists are driving safely.”

Some reminders of road safety include not driving while impaired and not driving without a seatbelt.
