Grenville County OPP are doing their part to get the conversation started this Mental Health Awareness Week.
Constable Dave Holmes was recently challenged by a local business owner to take part in the ice bucket challenge, requiring him have ice cold water poured on himself as a way to raise awareness of mental health.
Holmes went to the North Grenville fire station on Tuesday afternoon where a pumper truck was used by firefighters to pour water on himself and Brockville General Hospital Nurse Shawna Marshall.
Holmes tells Moose FM it is important to let others know how we feel.
“Mental health is extremely important and it affects far too many people to stay silent about it and the more we talk about it, the more we normalize it, I feel the more people will feel supported in seeking the supports when they need it.”
Holmes has challenged Grenville County OPP Detachment Commander Lisa Nicholas, South Grenville District High School Principal Lisa Johnston and the North Grenville Fire Department to take part in the challenge.
