Flags lowered in North Grenville in honour of Vancouver Filipino festival victims

North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says a deadly attack at a Filipino street festival in Vancouver is a stark reminder that we are not immune to such plainly terrible acts.

Eleven people were killed and many others injured when an SUV drove into a crowd at the festival on Saturday.

Flags in North Grenville are now being flown at half mast in honour of the victims.

In a statement, Peckford says the gesture reflects our collective grief and our commitment to stand with the Filipino community during this profoundly difficult time.

She adds that we recognize the significant contributions of the Filipino-Canadian community to the cultural fabric of our nation. Their resilience and unity in the face of tragedy are truly inspiring.
An arrest has been made in the investigation which continues.
