Lancione hoping to win riding for NDP

The federal NDP candidate in our riding says seeing U.S. President Donald Trump return to office spurred him to run.

Paul Lancione says he grew up in Brockville and graduated from the University of Toronto with a major in English before deciding to return home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said when he saw Trump elected for a second time, he was inspired to run here because he doesn’t want the division happening in the U.S. to happen here.

Lancione tells Moose FM that the top concern on many people’s minds are tariffs, brought on by Trump.

“The rhetoric that the U.S. President is using against us now is just completely ridiculous, there’s no justification for these tariffs whatsoever.”

Opposing Lancione in the race are Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds, who ran provincially in the recent Ontario election, Conservative incumbent Michael Barrett, Green Party candidate Randi Ramdeen and Hailey Simpson of the People’s Party.

Election Day is Monday, Apr. 28.
