It’s the second week of the federal election campaign and the slate of local candidates is growing longer.
Incumbent Conservative candidate Michael Barrett was first elected in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes in a byelection in 2018 and is running again.
He says the top issues he’s hearing when he’s been campaigning are challenges with the cost of living with everything from gas to groceries impacted.
Barrett says home ownership is another key issue with many being unable to afford to buy a home.
He tells Moose FM that his party wants to help people have a better life.
“We’re talking about restoring that affordability, restoring that promise of Canada for the people in our community.”
Opposing Barrett in the race are Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds, who ran provincially in the recent Ontario election, NDP candidate Paul Lancione, Green Party candidate Randi Ramdeen and Hailey Simpson of the People’s Party.
Election Day is Monday, Apr. 28.
