North Grenville Council asks developer to come back with more affordable units

North Grenville continues to explore options for adding more affordable places for people to call home.

A developer has approached the municipality’s council asking for a zoning amendment so that they can expand their row housing property at 110 Elvira Street in Kemptville from 36 units to 48 units.

At the same time, the applicant is proposing to reduce the affordable housing requirement from 25 per cent affordable to 10 per cent, something council has taken issue with.
The developer’s proposal has been sent back and council is asking for more information and for more affordable units to be added.
North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford tells Moose FM that all partners need to come together to make sure there are enough affordable homes.
“We do have an expectation, and it’s in our official plan, that a certain percentage is designated as affordable particularly when you’re building a higher number of units.”
The proposal is expected to be brought back at a future council meeting.
