Live coverage of Ontario election: Clark declared winner in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes

02-27-25, 10:45 p.m.: With all polls reported, Clark has won with 54.9 per cent of the vote, or 25,107 votes. Lorna Jean Edmonds of the Liberals was second with 27.1 per cent (12,392) and Chris Wilson of the NDP third, with 9.8 per cent (4,471).

02-27-25, 10 p.m.: The riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes has been called, with Conservative Steve Clark the winner, again.

That’s with 76 of 96 polls reporting.

Clark has carried the riding since 2010.

The Conservatives are projected to win a majority government.

02-27-25, 9:36 p.m.: Major media outlets are declaring a Doug Ford majority. A number of ridings were called 30 minutes after the polls closed at traditionally strong PC ridings.

Steve Clark is leading in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes with about half of the 96 polls reported. Clark has carried around 54 per cent of the vote, well ahead of Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds, at about 28 per cent. Chris Wilson of the NDP is third and Fiona Jager of the Green Party is well back in fourth spot.

02-27-25, 9:20 p.m.:

With 31 of 96 polls reporting, Clark is clearly in the lead with 11,767 votes (53.3 per cent). Edmonds sits in second place with 6,251 (28.3 per cent). Further back are Wilson (10.2 per cent) and Jager (4.2 per cent).

02-27-25, 9:08 p.m.:

We are getting early looks at results now and Steve Clark is leading with 12 of 96 polls reported. Clark has around 54 per cent of the vote, well ahead of Lorna Jean Edmonds, at 28.9 per cent. Chris Wilson of the NDP is third (9.3 per cent) and Fiona Jager of the Green Party is well back in fourth with 4.3 per cent.

02-27-25, 8:31 p.m.: 

We continue with our live coverage of the Ontario election and, specifically, the riding of Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

With the polls closing at 9 p.m. and a Conservative majority predicted, let’s take a closer look back at the results locally from the last election.

Conservative Steve Clark won the local riding in the 2022 election with 24,657 votes, which accounted for 57.7 per cent, well clear of Liberal Josh Bennett, who took 18 per cent of the vote, and a total of 7,746 votes.

Chris Wilson of the New Democrat’s finished third with 13.5 per cent, with 5,799 votes.

The Green Party’s Fiona Jager picked up just over 6 per cent of the vote.

Clark, Wilson and Jager are in the running again tonight in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, along with Liberal Lorna Jean Edmonds, Christopher Wilson of the NDP, Libertarian Mark Snow, New Blue Party’s Chris Garrah and the Ontario Party’s Daniel Calabretta.

Clark has represented the riding for the Conservatives since 2010.

Forty-four per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot back in 2022, the lowest turnout ever for an Ontario provincial election.

Many are predicting a similar or lower turnout today.

Polls suggest a third straight majority is waiting in the wings for the Conservatives tonight.

Only six per cent of eligible voters cast an early ballot in advance voting.

Forty-four per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot in 2022, the lowest turnout ever for an Ontario provincial election.

Many are predicting a similar or lower turnout today.

The PC’s were elected to a majority government in June of 2022.

They swept into power in 2018 with its first majority government after defeating the Liberals.

Polls suggest another majority is waiting in the wings for the Conservatives tonight.
