Homeowners reminded to keep gas meter and vents clear following heavy snow

You’re being reminded to keep your gas meter and appliance vents clear after all of the snow that’s fallen over the last week.

Enbridge Gas says that a blocked meter or vent is more than just a disruption to your heating, it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks and system failures.

Ottawa firefighters say they were called to 80 calls for carbon monoxide during the snowstorm that swept across eastern Ontario this past weekend.

To ensure your safety, officials say you should gently remove snow using a brush or broom, and never use sharp tools.
You should also be careful not to bump your meter with a snow blower.
