North Grenville is taking another step towards its goal of building a year-round sports dome in Kemptville.
Municipal officials say they have applied for approximately $8 million in provincial funding to support the construction of the dome which carries an overall projected total cost of $11.9 million.
It would be located on municipally-owned land at the Kemptville Campus.
They say the project, which would be the only facility of its kind between Kingston and Ottawa, would include multi-sport courts, a FIFA-sized soccer field and an indoor walking track.
If the provincial funding is awarded, municipal officials say it’s possible that construction could begin as soon as the middle of this year with an opening date of late 2026 or early 2027.
North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says “the North Grenville Sports Dome is more than just a facility—it’s a commitment to our residents’ well-being and our local economy. This project will provide much-needed recreation space while positioning North Grenville as a regional leader in sports and tourism.”
Thirty-five letters of support have been received by the municipality for the dome from a wide range of organizations, according to officials, and they are asking you or your organization to submit one if you’re in support.
