North Grenville hoping for provincial support for proposed indoor sports dome

North Grenville is looking to the province for help in creating more opportunities to get active.

At the recent Rural Ontario Municipal Conference in Toronto, North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says they had an opportunity to meet with the Office of Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden.

Peckford says the meeting was a follow-up to a previous get together with Minister Lumsden where the municipality laid out its proposal to build a multi-purpose multi-sport indoor sports dome on municipally owned land at Kemptville Campus.

She says they are planning to submit an application to the province for funding to help create the new facility, which would be open year-round.

Peckford says a dome is a big need.

“Kids and seniors being able to stay active year-round, which is something that’s harder here in North Grenville, where we have such limited indoor recreational space.”

There’s no timeline for when an announcement on the provincial funding could be made.
