Local police services receiving support from Ontario for mental health calls

Ontario is putting more than $45,000 in funding towards helping four local police services provide specialized support to people in need.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark says the funding is coming from the province’s Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement Grant.

He adds that it enables police to utilize trained crisis workers when responding to those in need with a mental health crisis.

Grenville County OPP are one of the departments that will receive funding, a total of $128,818.

Mobile Crisis Response Teams consist of police officers and crisis workers responding to complex situations where mental health or addictions may be a factor.
