It is a major change for the educational landscape in eastern Ontario.
Algonquin College says it will be closing its campus in Perth in 2026 as it faces a multi-million dollar deficit.
College President Claude Brulé says the economic situation has been brought about because of a new federal cap on international students and a lack of funding from Ontario.
In a letter to college staff, Brulé says a recommendation will be brought to the College Board of Governors in February that would see the Perth Campus close come the end of Aug. 2026.
He adds that “every effort will be made to mitigate impacts on employees and learners during this transition.”
