A new art installation pays tribute to the relationship between North Grenville and Ukraine.
The installation, located at the North Grenville Municipal Centre, was unveiled during a ceremony Friday morning with dignitaries including North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford and Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett on hand.
The installation signifies the bond between North Grenville and Sokal, Ukraine, after the two communities twinned back in July, 2023.
Kevin Willey is one of the lead artists on the installation and he says it’s made up of four bicycles, representing a Ukrainian family.
“Essentially a ghost bike with the Ukrainian flag rather than white, behind it are three sunflowers, one represents despair, one represents hope and one is saying ‘what are you going to do’.”
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February, 2022.
