Province putting funding towards voluntary merger involving Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit

A voluntary merger involving the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is getting support from the province.

As part of its proposed More Convenient Care Act 2024, provincial officials say there would be a voluntary merger of nine public health units into four new organizations.

That includes our local health unit which would merge with the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Health Units.

Officials say the goal is to provide more people with the right publicly funded care, in the right place, with the merger creating the new South East Health Unit.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark says the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit will receive $1.89 million in one-time funding to support the voluntary merger.

The act must still be passed before coming into place.
