Update: Plans underway to refloat large cargo ship stuck in St. Lawrence River

Plans are underway to refloat a large cargo ship that’s stuck in the St. Lawrence River near Morrisburg.

The Tim S. Dool was carrying a grain shipment when it became stuck around 12:30 p.m. last Saturday.

It’s not known why it ran aground but the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation says there were no injuries, no reported pollution and the vessel is not taking any water on.

An official with the corporation tells the MyKemptvilleNow.com Newsroom that the refloating team is now on site.

They say preparations for the salvage operation are underway with tugs mobilized Thursday night, and refloating efforts are expected to begin shortly.

The ship is outside the navigation channel.
