Nova Scotia Police Chief reacts to arrest of teen in anonymous threat investigation

The Deputy Police Chief of the Bridgewater Police Service in Nova Scotia calls the arrest of a suspect charged in an anonymous threat investigation a “win.”

Danny McPhee says his department was contacted earlier this month by the Ontario Provincial Police who were searching for the suspect in multiple threat hoaxes against St. Michael Catholic High School.

Police say the threats began Sept. 12 and continued until Oct. 17 with the school closed several times as a result.

McPhee says his department worked with the OPP and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to investigate the suspect resulting in search warrants and an arrest last Friday.

With the advent of technology, McPhee says police agencies need to work together to stop criminals.

“We have to become more and more borderless as law enforcement and work together, not have jurisdiction or politics get in the way.”

The 14-year-old male from Nova Scotia charged in an investigation is also accused of making similar threats in the U.S.

He made a brief video court appearance in Brockville on Tuesday and is scheduled to return on Feb. 7, again via video.
