Prescott now has an official process in place if complaints are made against the municipality.
At their regular meeting earlier this week, Prescott Town Council voted in support of the Municipal Complaint Policy, which officials say is based around handling them in a “fair, respectful, transparent manner, and as quickly as possible.”
When a formal complaint is filed it will be forwarded to the appropriate department head and, if they aren’t able to resolve the issue, the complaint will be forwarded to the Chief Administrative Officer.
If the resolution requires further consideration of policy, bylaws, or may have a budgetary or monetary impact, the possible solutions would rise to council. If it’s brought to council, a report would identify the issue, review the possible solutions and provide council with the opportunity to give staff direction on the suggested solution.
Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says it’s important that a formal process be in place.
“We have to put a complaint policy together for this council, for future councils, so they have something to go forward with in dealing with these issues.”
A flow chart for the complaint policy can be found on the Town of Prescott’s website.
