Don’t be surprised if you see these two teens become a part of the political picture in the future.
Two Grade 10 students from St. Michael Catholic High School, Keeley Brown and Peyton Maclean, were the respective winner’s of North Grenville’s Mayor for a Day Contest.
Brown served as Mayor on Wednesday and Maclean as Deputy Mayor, with both saying they learned a lot and enjoyed the experience.
Brown, a local musician, says she found out about the contest on Facebook and now she’s interested in becoming a part of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee.
“I’ve recently just learned about their youth program, I do think that I’m going to try to learn more and maybe join that, also talk to my peers about it.”
Maclean says she entered the contest because she wanted to learn more about helping clean up the community from the litter she sees around.
She says she was surprised to learn how many departments make up a municipality.
“The whole different departments for different areas really threw me off, I thought it was all environmental one area, all the permits one area.”
This is the second time North Grenville has held its Mayor for a Day Contest.
