Update: St.Michael Catholic High School to remain closed amid threat investigation

A Kemptville school will remain closed as an investigation into threats against it continues.

In a letter to families sent out Tuesday night, Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario officials say they have still not been given an assessment of the risk to public safety at the school.

They say the assessment is typically based on a set of criteria that determines the degree of risk as being either low, medium, or high.

Typically, they say the communication about the threats to the school has first been received by the police, who have subsequently notified the school board during the middle of the night.

Without meaningful risk assessment data, school officials say St. Michael will remain closed until they are given appropriate, criteria-based information by police.

Remote learning will be in place for students.

Tuesday marked the third time the school has been closed by threats since the start of the school year.

It was just last Tuesday that classes were allowed to resume after a four-day shutdown, as police and experts conducted a threat assessment.

Grenville County OPP said on Tuesday that they can confirm there has been another anonymous threat of violence against St. Michael Catholic High School.

They say they cannot speculate on any connection to earlier threats.
