A Kemptville school is set to reopen after being closed for four days because of a threat investigation.
In an update to families Tuesday evening, Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario officials say St. Michael Catholic High School will reopen on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
It has been closed since last Thursday after threats were made anonymously against the school. The school was also locked down on Sept. 13 because of similar threats.
In the update released Tuesday, school officials say over the course of the last six days, they have endeavored to understand the nature of the threats directed against the St. Michael Community. They add they have worked with partners at the Ministry of Education, the Ontario Provincial Police, and threat assessment professionals.
Due to the emotional impact this has had on some in the school community, school officials say they are putting additional measures into place to support the return:
Presence of support teams including mental health counsellors
Additional staff
Delayed start to facilitate student arrival and support
Police presence
External locking of doors
Virtual information session for families with threat assessment professionals at 7:00 p,m. Wednesday. More information to follow.
School officials say an alternate transportation schedule will be provided, which will result in delays, with details to be posted to the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario website.
They add that they understand the difficulty of this journey the community has been undertaking together, but add they have prioritized the safety and wellbeing of your children at all times and will continue to do so in the days ahead.
