The 20th annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run is making its way through eastern Ontario.
Participants are moving through the region and on Friday will be travelling along Highway-2, ending in Brockville.
Law enforcement professionals from over 30 agencies across Canada are taking part and raising awareness for the National Peace Officers’ Memorial.
They are also paying tribute to those officers who have given their lives in service of their community and their country.
Peel Regional Police Constable Tyler Bell says the run serves as a reminder of the dangers involved in policing, especially over the last few years.
“Such an increase in the violence and the manner in which our officers are being killed while going out with the best of intentions to keep our communities safe all signifies the significance of this run and making sure that their sacrifice is never forgotten.”
Bell adds that over $600,000 has been raised for the families of fallen officers since the event first began in 2005.
