It’s a reminder that West Nile Virus is present in our communities.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit says the virus was identified in two birds in the region in August.
While the health unit’s bi-weekly mosquito testing program has not found any positive mosquitoes, and there have been no human cases of WNV in our area, officials say the bird tests remind us that the virus is here.
You’re reminded to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites and to reduce mosquito breeding areas around your properties.
Mosquito bite prevention will also protect you from Eastern Equine Encephalitis which has been identified in horses in the LGL area and is also spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes.
