RVCA warns of unstable ice on rivers

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority reports temperatures in the Rideau River watershed remain below normal for the time of year which is delaying the spring melt. There is no rapid increase of temperatures or significant rainfall in the 7 day forecast that would lead to flooding.  However, shifting ice due to the increased water levels and ponded meltwater on top of the ice could pose safety risks. Exercise caution when near local streams and rivers.  Parents should inform their children of the risks associated with increased flows and unstable ice conditions in area waterways and provide appropriate supervision.
