Kemptville District Hospital recognized for good stewardship of donated blood

Kemptville District Hospital has been recognized for excellent results in managing its supply of donated blood. In a recent review of Ontario hospitals, KDH was commended for its work in monitoring amounts of intravenous blood for immune deficiencies, and red blood cells used in transfusions. KDH CEO Colin Goodfellow had this to say about the latest recognition:

With a staff of just six in the lab, KDH manages the use of blood products and provides round the clock service, analyzing blood, urine and tissue samples for patients in every unit of the hospital.

The Ontario Regional Blood Coordinating Network also applauded KDH for working collaboratively with Ottawa Valley hospitals to redistribute red blood cells before they become outdated and unusable. Through careful management, KDH maintains optimal usage of the blood so that it is available for patients when they need it most.
