Merrickville Beach remains unsafe for swimming.
During weekly beach testing last week, the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit determined the water at the beach was unsafe to swim in because of unacceptable levels of bacteria that were detected.
In an update on Thursday, the beach remains closed off.
Meanwhile, with all of the rain from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, health unit officials say that it’s important for swimmers to think about factors that may affect the quality and safety of the water.
They say that heavy rain in the area within 24 hours and water fowl droppings in the water and on the beach may contribute to high bacteria levels.
