Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus lays out priorities

Infrastructure investment, housing for all and health care access.

Those are the three strategic priorities identified by the Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus through its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan.

Caucus Chair Peter Emons says the plan was brought about because they identified a weakness in the past that caucuses serve on a one-year-term.

He says that meant the group would meet on their first day and come up with priorities only to soon thereafter attend the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting where the the caucus wouldn’t have as much impact as they would if they had more time to prepare.

Emons says the priorities, outlined in the three-year-plan, give future caucuses the advantage that they don’t have to feel like they have to reinvent the plan.

He adds that it’s about being prepared to go to Queen’s Park or Parliament Hill.

“It’s not enough to go with a complaint, we feel that you have to go with a concern from the community and demonstrate that you have a workable plan.”

The EOWC is a non-profit organization advocating for 103 small urban and rural municipalities across Eastern Ontario.
