(UPDATE – SECOND BODY FOUND) One youth dead after drowning near Manotick

UPDATE: Police have discovered the body of the remaining teenager. In a statement, the Ottawa Police Service says it extends its deepest condolences to everyone affected by this incident, calling it a “tragedy that impacts us all” and saying officers’ hearts go out to everyone grieving.

Ottawa Police are looking for a missing teenager who they say fell through the ice on the Rideau River. 

In a news release, officers say they received a call about four youths falling through the ice at 9:45 PM Wednesday, near Nicolls Islands Road in Manotick. 

Two of them were rescued by paramedics and taken to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), while two boys ages 16 and 17 remained missing.

Officers kept searching the area overnight, with the help of Ottawa Firefighters and the police department’s Marine Unit, and eventually found the body of one of the missing teens. 

The search for the remaining youth continued Thursday morning.  

Police say they’ve offered support to the families of the kids affected by the incident, calling the drowning a tragedy.
