United Counties releases Leeds-Grenville “Homelessness Update”

Chronic homelessness is down 13 percent this year compared to 2022 in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

The counties released a “Homelessness Update” Tuesday afternoon, ahead of this week’s Joint Services Committee meeting.

The report also says 158 people got direct help finding a home from the United Counties, and 26 new “supportive housing spaces” were created over the last year.

More than $2.1-million was invested into reducing homelessness by the counties, the report says.

$1.5-million went towards organizations that support people struggling with housing, and the rest was put towards direct payments to individuals and families.

The report also says the United Counties’ Community and Social Services division is drafting a three-year “Homelessness Prevention Strategy.”

We’ve requested an interview with Director of Community and Social Services Alison Tutak to learn more about how the United Counties plans to address housing going forward.
