Health Unit urging residents to get vaccinated against Influenza

Influenza has been detected in our region, so you should get vaccinated as soon as possible.

That’s the message being spread by the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

Staff members with the organization say anyone more than six months old can get the vaccine.

They add kids five years old and younger are an “under-recognized” group with a lot of risks for serious health complications if they catch the flu, so they’re urging parents to have young kids immunized.

Staff say the risk of infection tends to peak in mid-December, and since it takes two weeks for a flu shot to take effect, now is the best time to get vaccinated.

If you want to get a flu shot, they say you should reach out to your local pharmacy or your family healthcare provider.
